Dongfanghong finless dolphin artificial breeding base is located in Hanguhai Freshwater Nursery Center, Hangu District, Tianjin. The artificial breeding project of Dongfanghong finless dolphin fish has been included in one of the leading agricultural industrialization projects in Tianjin, and it has been determined by Tianjin Science and Technology Commission as a brand-name high-quality product recommended to the country and won the first prize of municipal scientific and technological achievements. Dongfanghong finless dolphin fish is a kind of toxic economic fish, which has not been widely developed and utilized in China. However, some countries, such as Japan, have developed and utilized it in the early 1980s, and artificial breeding and adult fish breeding have reached the advanced level. Dongfanghong finless dolphin fish has high nutritional value, and it is also widely used to produce valuable drugs. The extraction of liver and blood toxins from puffer fish is widely used and has considerable economic benefits. Demand exceeds supply in foreign markets, and in recent years, a large number of oriental fin dolphin delicacies have appeared on the tables of senior hotels and restaurants in major cities in China. Since 1995, the Hanguhai Freshwater Seedling Center has introduced the whole fertilized eggs of the Oriental Red Finless Dolphin for incubation test, and the young fish overwinters and the adult fish culture has been successful. From 1996 to 1997, a large number of aquaculture products were sold abroad, with considerable economic benefits. In 1998, many domestic and foreign merchants called, wrote and came to discuss the purchase and sale of Dongfanghong finless dolphin fish, and the development of Dongfanghong finless dolphin fish production has a very broad prospect. Hanguhai Freshwater Nursery Center has continuously expanded its production scale. Up to now, the number of fingerlings of Oriental Red Finless Dolphin can reach 15 million to 2,000 per year, and the number of adult fish produced can reach more than 10 million, with the breeding capacity exceeding 100 million and the adult fish reaching more than 500 million in 1999-2000.
