Baodi scallion

Baodi scallion

One of the traditional cash crops in Baodi district, "Three Spices", namely, Five-leaf Onion, Green Onion and Tianying Pepper, was introduced from other places by Baodi people in 1950s and 1960s. After decades of planting and improvement, these two varieties gradually adapted to the soil structure and climate characteristics of Baodi, and formed their own unique qualities and traits. Five-leaf scallion is characterized by tall plants, tender scallion, hypertrophy, non-tillering, slightly sweet and spicy taste, and a sweet taste when fresh scallion has high water content. Compared with other onions, it has a unique advantage that it is particularly storable. Its storage time can reach more than half a year, and the onions can be stored from November to May and June of the following year. Its medicinal value of preventing cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases has been recorded. There are 18 towns in Baodi District of Tianjin Baodi Vegetable Marketing Association, including Lintingkou, Wangbuzhuang, Dazhongzhuang, Fangjiazhuang, Dakoutun, Dabaizhuang, Bamencheng, Majiadian, Huogezhuang, Xinkaikou, Datang Zhuang, Gaojiazhuang, Koudong, Niudaokou, Shigezhuang, Haogezhuang, Zhou Liang Zhuang and Xin 'an Town, and Niujiapai. Geographical coordinates are 117 08 ′ 00 ″ east longitude ~ 117 40 ′ 00 ″ north latitude ~ 39 21 ′ 00 ″ north latitude. Baodi scallion is a geographical indication certification trademark.
