Cooked pear cake

Cooked pear cake

Tianjin cooked pear cake is a folk snack with unique Tianjin characteristics. Cooked pear cake, in fact, has nothing to do with pears. The word "pear" in it should be the same as the word "Li", which means "cooked Li". From the past to the present, cooked pear cakes in Tianjin have always been a popular snack for children. When we were young, we used to cook pear cakes, also called bowl cakes. Later, I checked the information and found out that it also has a serious scientific name "Zaner cake". "Zan" is an ancient cooker with many small holes in the bottom through which steam can steam the food in the container. In the late Neolithic period, pottery retort appeared, and bronze retort appeared in Shang and Zhou Dynasties. When I was a child, the variety of distinctive snacks was very monotonous, which was nothing more than sour cake, tea soup, bean candy, big pear cake, sugar cotton and so on, and cooked pear cake was one of the most representative snacks. When I was a child, I was excited every time I heard the sound of "Om-Om-Om-Om-Om-Er", because it was my favorite when I was a child, and I even affectionately called it "Om-Om-Er-Om-Er" cake. Cooked pear cake is made by grinding rice into powder residue and steaming it as the main ingredient. When making, put the rice flour in a wooden steamer, steam it on a steamer for one minute, and then spread various small ingredients on it. Some stalls put the cooked pear cakes on paper, and some stall owners with delicate minds create their own unique style in order to base their small business on long-term development, and they will also choose a pancake to hold them, which is crispy and delicious. At first, there were only three kinds of fillings: bean stuffing, sugar and red fruit, which gradually developed into a variety of small fillings including oranges, apples, pineapples, strawberries, chocolates, black sesame seeds and taro, forming an authentic Tianjin-style snack. Back then, most of the vendors selling cooked pear cakes were pushing carts along the street, and some of them were carrying burdens and walking around the streets. As soon as they heard the whistle, children would flock from all directions to buy them. In recent years, this kind of snack has suddenly become popular again, and many adults have joined the ranks of buying, scrambling to taste the delicious cooked pear cake, reminding them of their unforgettable childhood.
